Rationale - Project A

I choose Toyota Supra’s to do my exhibition on because I have a passion for cars. Most people would say this is more a male thing but for me as a female, I find that I really enjoy cars. I have no reason for why I like Supra’s so much I just do. I think it compares to a Skyline. A lot of people like Skylines and they are very popular, they are also still in production now. But with Supras not many people know about them and prefer a Skyline instead of them. I took this opportunity to make a website so that there was more information on the Internet about Supras.
When choosing to do a website I followed a basic website template. With the menu above the page, the viewer can easily click from page to page. Although my website seems to be a large temple this was the most simple and easiest template to use.
I spread my information out over seven pages, so that this was an easy to view website. There is nothing worse than going onto a website and getting lost because things aren’t spread out enough.

My work is not that different to other websites on the Internet but it is one that can be easily used by people. Such sites like http://www.frnz.de/ and http://www.lingscars.com/ - from http://www.blogstorm.co.uk/top-10-worst-websites/
I would say my work is well organised and set out right. These websites are hard to use and the information isn’t spread out enough for the viewer to read.
I used sites to gather my information from. None of my work is copied and if so it is referenced. All my work is my own words although I did follow a few sites to get my information from. All the images and videos are other people’s work but they have also been referenced.

The reason why I used a website for my exhibition was because I am familiar with working with design and layout of a website. I worked two years with maintaining websites for a small business. I used Yola.com for my website exhibition. It was recently changed from Snythasite to Yola. I choose this site because it was free, I didn’t have to pay for any hosting or uploading. Some of the problems that occured was that Yola could not handle the uploads. It froze on me and wouldn’t let me upload any more than I had. I would also lose some content and work with this problem. Other problems I had with Yola, was that I could not add an image into the text and then wrap the text around the image. I think having text around an image gives a good effect and allows people to add more images to their content.
One of the good things about Yola was that there was a YouTube plug-in that let me add YouTube clips just by adding the url in.

The online tool I used to help with creating and viewing my collections was a build in program on Yola called Picnik. It helped resize, crop or manipulate the image. The tool that was used to add content was a simple ‘What you see is what you get’ program, which is just like Microsoft Word but is limited. This some times can be difficult with copying and pasting content in, because for some reason the program won’t let you change the size or font of the content you have copied or pasted in.

I used flickr to get my photos from and YouTube for my videos.
With my images I selected creative commons so I had legal images. All my images are remixed, thus I was clear that every image I changed had the creative common remix so that it was legal for me to use. Also every image is referenced with the url.

Over all my website was a success, the website is made easy to the viewer, all the content that has been used is licensed appropriately and the size of the collection is organised effectively.
