Week4

Week 4 of Networked media production.

This week in our lecture we learnt about API.

API to me means; API = application program interface. Api is about sharing data and sharing functionally. Api lets you build off the back of an exciting services to create a new service. Meaning api lets people take somethings they like from various websites to create their own, generating more websites from the few original websites.

I have never heard of api before. I’m sure I would have come across one in my life of Internet surfing but never realised it was an api.

In the lecture we looked at various site that were created from api like, twistori.com, moo.com, tuneage.tumblr.com. I really found these creative and fresh.

One thing that was really big in this lecture was the fact that Max brought up a api website that had the victorian bush fires, in there current state. On the map was my Dad’s home town Kerang. It had a small bush fire. To my surprise I messaged my dad straight away. He was not away of the fire and phoned my family straight away. They informed him that four houses had burnt down but no one was hurt. Thought i would share my experience with everyone. http://mapvisage.appspot.com/fires/FireMap.html
